List of Band Captains and Drum Majors — Need Your Help, Bandies
I’ve been trying to locate a list of all the Band Captains and Drum Majors and so far, have failed to locate a full list. Bill McKibbin was kind enough to send me a pretty extensive list, but it’s not complete.
At the link immediately below is a Google Sheets spreadsheet with places for the names by year.
Add Information to the Band Captain/Drum Major List
Since y’all are clever gentlemen, if you would at your convenience enter the data you know into the spreadsheet we can compile this list pretty quickly. Please enter the first and last name of the person in the appropriate spot.
I figure that in a few weeks, we’ll have it all. I’ll add the information that Bill McKibbin provided when I have the opportunity, but it’s liable to take me a bit as I have some travel this weekend.

New info on 1965-1967 by Jim Meckley ’67
Dan, 1972 should be William Kear -Captain and Greg Ream – Drum Major. 1973 should be Martin McKee – Captain and Jeffery Zimmerman – DM. 1974 should be Robert Hamme – Captain and Jeffery Zimmerman – DM
added a couple DM’s. Have to remember – Year listed is beginning of school year, not graduating year!
Wasn’t Jerry Maynard drum major in both ’69 and ’70? Of course, ’70 was the unusual (I think) occurrence that drum major (Jerry) was also band captain. And perhaps Mike Brooks, drum major in ’71?

Just found this website and Band Captain / Drum Major page…..how absolutely wonderful!!!! I had the honor and privilege of being the Drum Major year 1964 ( filled in the blank space), and following year , 1965 Band Captain and again Drum Major. I continue to cherish the wonderful memories of my four years 1962 – 65 as a Valley Forge Bandsman during the “Golden Era” of Feltham Bands!

Band captains have always been listed by their graduating year. Bob Carson was 1950 (I don’t know the DM;DICK LEISTER-1951, Bob pagenkamper was was DM; schludecker,1952, Jack ________?(a corpsman) was DM; John Dodson was CAPTAIN in 1953 with Jack Martens, DM; I, Blaine Wilkinson was BC in1954 and Jack Martens was again DM (for many years after leaving VF, Jack returned each year to train the new DM); Jack Bohman w.as BC in 1955. The original DM that year was fired by BAKER and Bohman t.ook over as DM also. That’s as far as I can go.
Good point, Rich and Blaine! I’ve adjusted the spreadsheet to represent the graduating year as well.

Kirby Sheffer was Drum Major in 1966-67. I have a picture of him in front of the Eagle. I remember Duke was reluctant because he was a good drummer. This could be verified by Bill Gower?
Hey, Jim…seem to remember it being Spangler for ’66-’67 as that was my plebe year. But who knows? Though,just checked the yearbook and it listed Jim as the DM and he has the sash on in his grad pic. Would be good to have someone with a good memory confirm. 🙂
