Buried Treasure: Read the Comments

Band Sir! Posted on March 11, 2023 by Dan WolfeMarch 11, 2023

As many of you know, I’ve been maintaining this site for a few years now, and after a time working on any project, it gets to a steady state where not a lot changes.  While the under-the-hood things have been happening, the look and the content of the site haven’t changed a lot in the last couple of years.  When a new comment needs to be moderated, I usually give it a quick scan to make sure it’s not spam, approve it, and rarely do I give it a second thought. A couple of weeks ago, I was doing some … Get your chin in and keep reading…

Well, That Was Fun…

Band Sir! Posted on August 23, 2022 by Dan WolfeAugust 23, 2022

Good morning! While the physical move of the BandSir.com server went smoothly, a thunderstorm on Sunday morning caused a short power outage. The uninterruptible power supply failed and for some reason still unknown, the database software failed. This is why this site has been offline. Fortunately, I have backups, but I had to learn how to restore the site, having never needed to restore it before. It’s back up and running again — sorta. It’s not on a secure web page yet, but I’ll add that back over the coming days. If you find a link that doesn’t work, please … Get your chin in and keep reading…

1972 WJZ-TV Christmas Concert

Band Sir! Posted on August 2, 2020 by Dan WolfeAugust 2, 2020

[Comments on this post have been turned off in favor of the linked page. When you get there, please share your memories of the event in the comments on that page.] For Christmas of 1972, WJZ television in Baltimore, Maryland invited the Valley Forge Military Academy Band to record a Christmas concert for their viewership. Please click here or on the image below to take you to the page where the video is. Thanks of course go to Ron Youngs, who had this program along with the recording of Nixon’s inaugural concert previously posted here. Dan Wolfe74-76JC

I have a question for anyone that was in the band. It pertains to the Field Music. I know that Colonel Feltham was the tactical officer for the band and that Captain Weller was a tactical officer for the field music. I also remember that Colonel Felton was the band’s musical Director. But who was […]

The mystery of Colonel Woodside It was the 1971 to 1972 school year and something unusual happened that year. When a school season starts, the faculty gather and stay on till the end of the school year. But there was an exception that year. Colonel Woodside started at the Forge in 1955 and left unexpectedly […]

I’ll have to agree with you, Ron was an interval part of helping preserve our youth in the recordings he produced. Ron started in 1968 and was a civilian faculty member. The following year they made him second lieutenant where he wore a military uniform. He was a great guy and I really enjoyed working […]

I do agree with you, Dan, regarding Colonel Woodside He did know his way around the Organ. And he had quite the credentials to back his profession up. He started at the Forge in 1955. And for the four years that I knew him, he never acted with that military protocol like we did with […]

  • Comment on Record – “The Praise of Christmas” by Ed Machos August 9, 2026
I would like to comment on this concert, “The Phrase of Christmas,” regarding an unusual thing that happened in the chapel during this concert. But before I do that, I would like to reach out and say hello to an old choir member, Mark Ray, who has posted his thoughts of this occasion. Hello oh […]

In reply to Dan Witter. In regards to Dan’s and William’s (Brad) comment regarding the El Morocco restaurant during the Lincoln Center gig. Mike Levine and I started at the Forge in 1966. I was a freshman at that time and he was a year ahead of me. We were both in the choir at […]
