BandSir Needs Your Help

Band Sir! Posted on September 1, 2024 by Dan WolfeSeptember 1, 2024

Thanks so much to those of you listening to the collection of music here on BandSir.com! A while back, I received this email from Erik Ronningen, ’64 & ‘66JC, recommending that BandSir add a category of records by academic year.  I thought this was a great idea and so as of now, you’ll see the additional main menu item titled “Concert Band Records – by Academic Year.” It is right next to the alphabetical list of concert records which has been labeled as such. One of the things that has made the identification of the years in which the records were … Get your chin in and keep reading…

New Content Added: BandSir Scrapbook!

Band Sir! Posted on February 3, 2024 by Dan WolfeFebruary 3, 2024

I’ve created another main menu item called “Scrapbook.” This menu will contain video and photo records of the VFMA Band as provided by you. I moved Jeff Christopher’s home movies to this category, and I’m delighted to add more home movies from Dan Witter. If you have movies or photos that you might like to add to the scrapbook, please drop me an email at BandSir.com@gmail.com and I’ll (eventually) get them posted. Be well and stay safe out there! Dan

Back in Business!

Band Sir! Posted on February 2, 2024 by Dan WolfeFebruary 2, 2024

The BandSir.com site has been successfully transitioned to a new media player which ought to work for everyone and the software with the security vulnerability has been removed from the site.  Everything should play just fine on any browser and on any operating system. Thanks as always for your patience. If you find errors in the track listings, design, or any other error, please let me know so I can get it fixed.  I don’t always check in on the site, so I rely on you to let me know when you encounter something that doesn’t work anymore. Please send … Get your chin in and keep reading…

Upgrade In Progress

Band Sir! Posted on January 31, 2024 by Dan WolfeJanuary 31, 2024

Astute alumni observer, Hugh Johnson, pointed out that the audio tracks on each page would not play correctly. In investigating the problem, I discovered that he was right — it would only work correctly on certain browsers. I also discovered that the software used to construct the playlists became obsolete some years ago and was removed for <gulp!> security reasons. I will begin to transition the site to the new media player, but it will be a tedious process taking some time. Please be patient as I move everything over to something that works for everyone. Also, for Dan Witter, … Get your chin in and keep reading…

New Article: “A Short History of the Fanfare Trumpets”

Band Sir! Posted on July 18, 2023 by Dan WolfeJuly 18, 2023

While digging through an old box, I came across a newspaper clipping from 1976. In it, the article documented in my hometown newspaper, the Fostoria Review Times, the fanfare trumpets’ participation in Queen Elizabeth’s visit to the United States in July 1976. A small contingent of Bandies was called back to perform on the grand staircase inside the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  The text of the article that follows also describes how the fanfare trumpets came to be a part of the VFMA Band. But the arrival of the fanfare trumpets at VF is just part of the story.  Click … Get your chin in and keep reading…
