Yet ANOTHER New Dance Band Album Posted!

Band Sir! Posted on May 29, 2016 by Dan WolfeMarch 6, 2020

“All Is Well” is from 1974 and if memory serves, this is the last of the Dance Band records recorded.  I don’t recall whether there were more recorded in ’75 or ’76.  I’m sure one of y’all will let me know. Anyway, many thanks as always to the contributors, in this case, Jeff Tobin, ’74, ’76 JC for providing me with an unopened copy of the album. Enjoy! Dan

The Man Who REALLY Made This Website Possible

Band Sir! Posted on May 27, 2016 by Dan WolfeMay 27, 2016

Hint:  It’s not me, though I had something to do with it. Another hint:  It’s not Duke, though he had quite a lot to do with it. Last hint:  It’s not the Band.  (Besides, I said “man” singular so the Band as a group is out.)  But yeah, the Band had a little something to do with it, too. Who’s the real hero?  It’s this guy right here:   I knew him as both a captain and a major, but Ron Youngs is really the guy to thank.  He recorded every concert, every record and every other audio-worthy event during … Get your chin in and keep reading…

Yes, It’s a Different Look…

… because I updated the software that controls the appearance of the site today.  Unfortunately, it was not a smooth transition, but everything seems to be back where it belongs even if the colors aren’t a match with what they were. Should you find something that’s not working the way it ought to work or your old, tired eyes are having trouble reading the site, please let me know as I am going to try to make BandSir.com a pleasing experience for the eyes as well as the ears. Another New Dance Band Album Posted!

Band Sir! Posted on May 26, 2016 by Dan WolfeMarch 7, 2020

Here’s another one that I put off posting because I didn’t know anything about the recording that Ron Youngs provided me a long time go.  But I was able to ID enough of the tracks so that Bob Coulon could recognize the album, “Odyssey,” and provide me not just with a track listing, but images of the front and back covers as well. Many thanks to both Ron Youngs, without whom there would be no recordings at all, for providing the digital files for this album and for Bob Coulon who graciously provided the album art which enabled the identification … Get your chin in and keep reading…

New Dance Band Album Posted!!

Band Sir! Posted on May 24, 2016 by Dan WolfeMarch 6, 2020

Greetings from a long-silent BandSir.com.  I hope that all are doing well. I’m delighted to post an album purchased and provided by David Haught, class of 79.  Dave gave me this at a secret dead drop (it was really Bob Evans) last week (it was really last year — like a LONG time ago) and I digitized the record right away.  (That part’s true.) Thanks, Dave, for giving us our first Dance Band album, “Taps at Reveille!” And thanks to you all for your patience. -DW

In reply to Dan Witter. I would have done better playing the trombone in felthams band than sax and clarinet in derbys band

That’s a great album. I’m so glad you brought it to us! I thought the 1955 band was top notch but this compilation was so good. Thanks a million !

Oh boy, do I remember Brooke’s Chicago! At the inaugural parade for Governor Shafer in 1967 we played that right through six or seven times. It was a cold January day in Harrisburg and that was a real bear for the clarinets. That’s a really good Seitz march, but on the march in the cold–yuck!

I liked Colonel Jayne’s. I played for him on alumni weekends. I played the Tenor and Bari saxes a few times and the trombone in a few more of them. Feltham accepted me in 9th grade on the trombone. However, that didn’t materialize on the home front.. Derby accepted me on the Bari sax and […]

At the news of VF closing the Academy , and with JC in doubt, as a former Bandie from 52-56 in the Academy I was arguably the youngest to have been accepted at least until then. I was privileged to play under DK Feltham for all my time at VF; including a couple years prior […]
