An Error Corrected

Band Sir! Posted on September 1, 2015 by Dan WolfeSeptember 1, 2015

Thanks to Dan Witter for pointing me to a broken couple of tracks. They were here on the page containing the broadcast of the 1812 Overture with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Awhile back, I had to make some minor internal nuts-and-bolts adjustments to the site and unfortunately I failed to account for that on this page.  The other affected pages appear to be OK. New Concert Added and An Updated One

Band Sir! Posted on August 23, 2015 by Dan WolfeMay 24, 2016

There’s been one new concert added to the BandSir.com site and one update. The new concert is the Fall 1973 concert.  It features Cadets Wesley A Cramer & Joseph A. Gigliotti as Soloists on Lo! Hear the Gentle Lark and includes Victory at Sea. One note:  Cut 8, Fiddler on the Roof has a rather serious drop out in the middle of the track.  It must have been on the master tape as the two copies of the tape in my possession have exactly the same flaw. For the 1972 Second Spring Concert, a cut of Orpheus in the Underworld has been added. … Get your chin in and keep reading…

New Concerts Added!

Band Sir! Posted on August 18, 2015 by Dan WolfeMay 27, 2016

I’ve added three concerts to the library.  They are all three from the 1970 – 1971 academic year. Many thanks to Randy Jenkins, one helluva French Horn player for providing the tapes for these three and to Skip Mahler for being so kind as to coordinate getting the tapes to me for digitizing and posting. I wasn’t able to identify all of the titles of the music in these recordings.  What I knew I added.  I’m asking you to help fill in the blanks.  If you know the title, shoot me an email and I’ll update it.  Other than the … Get your chin in and keep reading…

From the 2015 Crossed Sabres

Band Sir! Posted on June 7, 2015 by Dan WolfeJune 8, 2015

VFMA Bandmaster Phil Evans was kind enough to provide BandSir.com with this article written for the 2015 yearbook, Crossed Sabres.  It’s such a nice article that I’ve posted it both here for immediate distribution and made it a permanent part of the “About” page here on Bandsir.com.  Thanks to you, Phil! Valley Forge Regimental Band by WO2 Philip Evans Col. Milton G. Baker’s Vision of the Cadet Band Circa 1935 Following a short-lived experiment with an employee band, Milton G. Baker’s philosophy, as it pertained to the future of the Regimental Band, was simple and effective. He often explained to … Get your chin in and keep reading…

New Pages Added

Band Sir! Posted on June 3, 2015 by Dan WolfeJune 3, 2015

I’ve added new pages to the BandSir lineup.  I haven’t had the time to restore another album or concert just yet, but I was able to put together some text and photos on my lunch break.   Duke had a retirement gala at a local to VF hotel in November of ’75. Here’s the text of remarks by Maj. Gen. Medenbach, Lt. Col. Leister and Col. Feltham himself.   Here’s a complete biography of he current Bandmaster and Director of Music at VF, WO2 Phil Evans.   And lastly, here’s the two photos taken by the VF photographer on the occasion … Get your chin in and keep reading…

I had a theory and this bio confirmed it’s a possibility; I dreamed? that the Duke’s talents included violin and clarinet originally; this seems to corroborate my memory. Of course my memory is of the fine Bandmaster he was at VF and how fortunate I was to be a member of his Bands! ( a […]

Hey Dan, hope you are doing well in Ohio. I did a little “research” and I believe Track 1 on the 1970-1971 Concert #1 is the march “Aufwarts” by Josef Gnos. Aufwarts translated from German, I believe, means “Upward”, which is the name of the March we played way back then! I remember playing it […]
