This makes BANDSIR more important than ever, at least we have our memories. As a proud “Baker boy” and a member of the Feltham band, I remember the old days and just hit the “delete button” regarding the past four or five decades.
I am proud to have been a member of the corps with you ” bandsmen ” who made it just perfect. Thanks to you all for everything.

I, too, am sorry to get the announcement even though we expected it.
I guess I’m a little sorry that I skipped my 70th reunion this year.
I’m sorry that it had to come to this. When I became a Bandsman, it was the proudest day of my young life. I could see that the Academy was starting to crumble when I was there for my 50th anniversary. Oh well, I have some great memories.
Very sad indeed to me; I still have friends from the Band and the Academy where I graduated in ’56 from the Academy (HS) as a young , maybe the youngest ever, to receive a Band scholarship. Fortunate to serve when Col Feltham was the Band Tac, a graduate of the Royal Military School of Music in England We marched in Eisenhower’s first/second inaugural representing Pennsylvania.
Where does the college hold classes? That area has been leveled and sold off?
As a “60” J C from the “Troop” I am hating to loose the Academy. But I will always remember concerts in the hall and the thrill every time Ed Gloss played Ode To Trumpet. I listen on the pc but it is not the same and due to marriage problems I lost all my LPs. My finest memory was the kidding with Col. Faltham one day that as lead vehicle in parade I was going to push the band. He said he would flatten my tires. Many other times are in my memory bank of the school. My diploma on the wall has now become the Saber we touched on the walkway.
as VF is about to close I want to relay a short story about a Bandmate of mine in the early 50;s when Col Feltham was the tac. Allan Jaffe was a tuba player in that band; he went on to be the owner/proprietor of Preservation Hall in New Orleans where he played tuba there for many years. His son now owns the Hall and plays there as Allan passed away as did his wife. Perhaps it is appropriate to include a Preservation Hall Jazz Band piece on BandSir as a testimony to his spirit etc? Thanks!
No objections. Send me a link to my email and I can link to it.

Upon the apparent demise of VF, perhaps it would be appropriate to include a CD of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band which was spearheaded by Al Jaffe, a VFMA Band member during the early ’50″s ? He has passed away however his son now operates the Hall.
So sad 😞
