Interview with John Hoffman, ’69
One of our esteemed fellow VFMA alumni, who chooses to remain nameless, sent me this note on the Book of Faces:
“Dan, I just came across this about John Hoffman, ‘legendary’ Bandsman ’69. Excellent audio interview with him. Many of us always wanted to know all that he had been involved in. This says it all.”
This unnamed, “honorable” alum, who wore three pips and a tuba my plebe year, is correct — it’s a really terrific interview!

VFMA Bandies, this is worth your time!
Yes, very worth your time. I remember Johnny from my two years at VF and remember when he came with my family to Bookbinders in Philadelphia. He sucked in a raw clam for the first time and proceeded to spit it out on his plate in front of us. I guess he didn’t like raw clams?
I remember Bookbinders very well. It’s a shame it is no longer around. We ate there several times. John “Foetus” Hoffman and I were together in the Band in the 1960’s. He was a great musician and a good guy. I hope to see him someday. Richard Wingert
